When I became a real estate investor, I did it accidentally.
I didn’t know I was becoming a real estate investor.
I didn’t really have any intentions of becoming a real estate investor.
I was always a stock investor. I started learning about stock investing when I was about 14 or 15 years old. I studied it for about seven or eight years, and then when I was graduating college, my dad told me when I went into college, that when I graduated and started earning a salary I would have to pay rent.
It really wasn’t a big deal. A lot of people have to do that, but I knew that I did not want to pay rent.
For me, I wanted to own something.
So, I worked nearly full-time all throughout college and I purchased a property before I walked at my college graduation, my senior year.
When I moved into the place I bought, I didn’t even open the second bedroom’s door for months when I lived there.
I was like, well, I should probably do something with this. So, I ended up renting out that bedroom. It rented for about $700-$750 and my total mortgage, all-in, including the HOA fee, was about $1,100.
I said to myself, well, this isn’t so bad. I get to live for $300-$400 per month, and he worked nights, I worked days, so we never saw each other anyway.
Fast forward a few months, I knew I wasn’t that smart and there was no way I came up with the strategy, so I started to do some research.
That’s when I discovered the real estate investing strategy of “house hacking”. I had no idea this was a form of real estate investing, I thought I was just a young kid trying to live for cheap.
Turns out, it was actually a real estate investing strategy, and a damn good one. That got me excited and I started researching real estate investing more. I quickly found that there were thousands and thousands and thousands of everyday people that were no different than me that were successful real estate investors. That completely shattered and removed all the limiting beliefs that I had about real estate.
I no longer believe I had to be a multi-millionaire or billionaire to invest in real estate. I knew it was possible for me.
I always thought I’d have to wait to invest in real estate. I thought I’d have to make my millions in the stock market first, then I could use that money to invest in real estate.
Boy, was I wrong...
All the best,
